General ergonomic suggestions

    This is the thread for all small ergonomic ideas. If you think your idea is big / complex enough, you can directly create a thread for it.

    But if you think your idea is small enough to not justify its own thread, you can post here. :)
    If the idea becomes big enough, we will create its own thread.

    I would like to suggest something really simple to do : Craft some cube ten by ten by clicking with the mouse's middle button on recipe, for the health of my mouse. ^^

    Factorio has something like that. I don't remember if the shortcut they use is SHIFT+Click or Left Click.

    Why do you have to craft a lot of cubes? Sub elements are automatically crafted, and you don't spend cubes by drawing them on the map.
    Or maybe you lose very often the cubes you have in your toolbar because you don't use the "Protect Toolbar" option (the button with red circle at the bottom left of the screen).

    Hum... Maybe... :oops: Or because i click on every thing before to put it into the toolbar... :p

    But in the final version, if i want to make a great structure with lot of cubes, maybe it's could be useful ?

    I really really want an indicator to show the direction the cube is facing as soon as possible. When my DNAs do not work I'm really missing this information to know what is wrong.

    EDIT: Also, the "L" button to change the planet is nice, but the prompt window that appears is unnecessary. Either remove it, or add a tick box "do not show again"

    Yes, you will even have factories which will create cubes for you. :)
    And they will put them into your Divine Cube's inventory. :D


    I can do some work on this part. We already have corners on cubes and lines on terrain, so let's continue to do like it is the advanced view with lot of informations displayed.
    I will make it so the front face of the cube displays something, so you can identify it as the front face.


    I can do that. You will have to tick the option the first time the window appears, then it will no longer bother you.
    (until the next time you play the game) (these kind of options will later be recorded in an option file on the disk to remember your choices)

    Is this game going to feel like an incremental game ? Things like Cookie Clicker, it has spread a lot recently.

    It will be more like Factorio (a very good game):



    The main difference will be that you will have cubes conveying resources, instead of conveyers belt.
    Factorio's terrain doesn't change during the play, so you take hours to put conveyers belt. God is a Cube's terrain change a lot, so you deploy your factories fast with 3D blueprint, and you take resources into your spaceship before going elsewhere.

    About Incremental Games, there is also Reactor Incremental, which is interesting because it features a gameplay involving elements you created:

    But God is a Cube will also have huge resources depositories, something like Starcraft 2 crystals:

    You will have the choice to destroy everything to get part of the resources, or set up a chain of factories to exploit a maximum of these resources (so without changing continuously the terrain). Using the second option, the game will feel like an incremental game, where you come back after a few hours to see how much resources you have gained.

    So it's up to you to choose the better strategy, depending of the planet. Incremental, shooter, First Person, etc.

    You could even cut the huge crystal repository, to put it on your spaceship. This way, you can still explore the galaxy, and the crystal farm you have on your spaceship produces regularly resources... until the crystal repository is depleted.

    The Card system is made so people will be able to create and share their own levels: Planets for Incremental gameplay, Planets for Tower Defense gameplay, etc. The Survival Mode will create random Planets, and could make some use of these Cards / Planets created by the community to put them randomly into the game as well.

    Oh okay. Also, screw you for that reactor incremental game. I did not know about this one, I feel like my evening is screwed :(
    EDIT: Just blew up my whole reactor, i'm left with nothing, I'm so disgusted.

    If you screw both your reactor and your money, you are just left with the upgrades. Which means, not a lot of things.

    I still spent most my evening on the game...

    On the subject of the thread, I think there should be a "pause time" button to be able to place cubes while stopping the movement of alive cubes.
    And maybe a "add empty DNA to toolbar" option, so you can directly edit your new DNA from the toolbar.

    About the last update :
    • I can no longer select the items I want from the toolbar with the number keys, which is kind of annoying.
    • Middle click should only rotate the camera, and not move the center of the camera to where you clicked as well.
    • I'm not sure about that, but I think in games with similar camera control (move mouse to the edge to move camera), you have to put your mouse on the pixel at the very edge of the screen, a few pixels away will not work. You might also want to add a change sensitivity option, it feels really slow right now.
    • I'm unsure about what the mouse wheel should do. I would prefer if it was used to zoom, but I understand some people prefer changing items with it. I don't remember seeing a game with both this view and inventory type, so both standard controls are clashing for this option.

    Also, there should be a text box that appears when you mouse over the icons on bottom right. I still don't know what all of them do.

    A tooltip system is on the work, I think I can put it higher in the task list. I also would like to add small icons next to the mouse cursor to help seeing what action you are doing.
    Some of these icons at the bottom right will be moved into the Options menu I talked about in the release news.
